PINK OCTOBER - DANCE FOR HEALTH - CLASSES & WORKSHOP
FREE BELLYDANCE CLASSES FOR WOMEN AFFECTED BY CANCER
September is already behind us! So here we are in October, a month dedicated to breast cancer awareness, a cause that is particularly close to my heart as I went through this ordeal in 2020, an experience that changed my life in many ways. I am grateful for having had the support and resources, both financial and otherwise, to take care of myself and nurture my body throughout the treatments. When the time came for oncological rehabilitation, I was offered machine-based exercises, supervised by physiotherapists (with masks, due to the pandemic). Never being a fan of that type of exercise, after an "evaluation session," I chose to turn to what speaks to me the most: belly dance dance, to help me get back in shape. As part of Pink October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and to support women who are going through or have gone through cancer, I am offering free access to my Tuesday lunchtime dance class for all of October to those interested (info here). And because taking action is often the hardest step, I invite them to come accompanied by a woman of their choice. The 5€ participation fee for their companion will be donated to Femmes d'Alger et d'Ailleurs, a non-profit organization supporting women affected by cancer in Algeria. If you know a woman who could benefit from an oriental dance class in a supportive environment, please share this information with her or – even better – come with her, because when someone is ill or weakened by illness, sometimes they need their loved ones to help them take that first step. Take care of yourself, and your breasts if you have them! Get to know them by regularly examining them for any changes, so you can detect anything early on. See you soon, Maëlle |
